Tom Satkowiak with TVA reported this morning that crews will be opening the spillway gate at Nolichucky Dam on the Asheville Highway at times throughout this week, beginning today.
Because of this, the reservoir will be in a lowered state for much of the week as crews conduct some survey scans at the dam.
TVA had opened the spillway for the first time since the September flooding on January 30th. The gate was closed again February 7th due to pending weather. Opening of the spillway stops water from flowing over the face of the dam. The spillway had been inoperable for several years until being repaired in 2019.
