Greene County School Board members who spoke of the $2,000 bonus for teaches from the state at the board meeting Thursday, say they want the educators to get the money, but voiced concerns about what state strings might be attached to it.
Larry Bible was most vocal.
Bible told the story of his time as teacher, when then Governor Lamar Alexander gave teachers a $1,000 bonus, but it required four consecutive Saturday’s in meetings in order to receive the money.
Bible says he’s concerned in that the money this time is tied to Governor Lee’s voucher program .
School Board Chair Rick Tipton agrees there are more questions than answers at this time as it pertains to the bonus.
School boards across the state are to decide whether they want to accept the money for their teachers.
Even though the money would be for those teaching during the current school year, the money would not be dispersed until sometime in July.
