Tusculum University invites the community to hear readings from the newest faculty member of the English and Languages Department at a special event on campus.
Dr. Joshua Martin, assistant professor of English, will read from his works at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, in the Behan Arena Theatre, which is on the lower level of Annie Hogan Byrd Fine Arts Center. He will also participate in a question-and-answer session and be available for one-on-one conversation at a reception afterward at the Behan. The event is free.
Dr. Martin is the author of the poetry collection “Earth of Inedible Things” and winner of the 2021 Jacar Press Chapbook Award. He is the 2022 Donald Justice scholar at the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and his poems, essays, and reviews appear in publications such as “The Bitter Southerner,” “Carolina Quarterly,” “Rattle,” “storySouth,” “Baltimore Review” and “Atlanta Review.”
A Tusculum faculty member beginning this semester, Dr. Martin holds a bachelor’s degree in English and creative writing from Appalachian State University, a master’s degree in English language and literature/letters from Clemson University and a doctorate in English and creative writing from Georgia State University.
“We’re so pleased to have Dr. Martin onboard. We’ve only been in class two weeks, and Josh has jumped in with both feet, meeting students and sharing his own writing process with them,” said Kelsey Trom, associate professor of English. “His energy is contagious, his ardor for literature apparent. I’m looking forward to collaborating with him on ‘The Tusculum Review,’ our international literary journal. He’s taking over for Clay Matthews, who now writes and teaches in Kentucky, as our poetry editor. He’ll continue to burnish Clay’s legacy in our publications and through his hands-on work with our student editors.”
