If the term “Christmas in July” wasn’t already in use, Greene County officer holders and employees may soon feel like using it when they move into their new much more spacious offices inside the former Takoma Hospital building beginning later this month.
Although exact moving dates have not yet been announced, it’s expected the County Clerk office will be first to relocate from the current Greene County Annex.

When you enter the main entrance, the first office you will notice is the Greene County Clerk, affectionately known to locals as the “tag office”

There’s also a separate room for Drivers License related matters.

Greene County Trustee, Property Assessor and Register of Deeds will also relocate later this summer from the Annex.
Building and Zoning, which is sharing space in the 9-1-1 building, will also be moving to the building now known as the Greene County Administration Center.

BUILDING AND ZONING
Building and Zoning will be the only one of the six departments moving to the first floor who are not currently located in the Annex. Building and Zoning is sharing space in the 9-1-1 building. The picture below shows only the public entrance to Building and Zoning, but behind these walls are several areas and offices related directly to the department. Each of the offices moving to their new location will have extremely more space in which to work, as well as storage areas.
LONG FIRST FLOOR HALLWAY
There are a few things that bring back memories of the former hospital such as these halls, the same elevators still being used and steps leading to the next floors, although freshly resurfaced.

REGISTER OF DEEDS
This is the view from the Register of Deeds Office. Fortunately, the portable restroom outside that window will leave when construction is complete. The new offices will each have employee restrooms and break rooms. ADA accessible public restrooms are also available on the first floor.

MOVING ON UP – NOT JUST YET
The second, third and fourth floors of the building are not yet ready for occupancy.
SECOND FLOOR
Eventually, the Mayor’s office, County Attorney, Budget and Finance and others will occupy the second flood, which will also house a cafeteria for employees use as well as the public.
THIRD FLOOR
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department, currently located downtown next to the Detention Center, will occupy the third floor.
FOURTH FLOOR
The Greene County School System offices, currently located on West Summer Street will move to the fourth floor.
