WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY MORNING

* WHAT…Heavy snow and mixed precipitation possible. Widespread snow accumulations between 2 and 4 inches. Mixture of sleet and freezing rain possible south of I-40 up to the foothills of the Appalachians.

* WHERE…Portions of southwest North Carolina, east Tennessee, and southwest Virginia.

* WHEN…From Friday morning through Saturday morning.

* IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

Monitor the latest forecasts for updates on this situation.

Persons should consider delaying all travel. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution. Consider taking a winter storm kit along with you, including such items as tire chains, booster cables, flashlight, shovel, blankets and extra clothing. Also take water, a first aid kit, and anything else that would help you survive in case you become stranded.

DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN – THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY

A winter storm will impact the area Friday into Saturday. Snow is expected to spread into the region Friday morning. Mixed precipitation is now possible due to warm air aloft lifting north and downslope winds over the eastern terrain. Precipitation will continue through the afternoon and evening, then taper off early
Saturday morning. Several inches of snow accumulation are expected, potentially causing significant travel impacts. A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect.
