The National Weather Service early this morning issued an Increased Fire Danger Statement for this afternoon and tonight.

The notice is for all of Greene County, as well as all of the eastern part of Tennessee and southwest North Carolina.
Dry surface conditions and gusty southwest winds today will pose an increased threat for fire danger conditions
Relative humidity may drop to 25 percent or lower, with wind gusts between 20 and 35 mph expected. Wind gusts over the higher terrain will be in the upper end of that range.
Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you may burn outdoors today. If you do burn, use extreme caution since fires can increasingly escalate under these conditions.
