I-81 south bound was blocked for several hours last night following a motor vehicle crash just before 8 pm at mile marker 40.6 in Greene County.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the crash involving a Buick operated by 56 year old Edward Dearmin of Arkansas and a Freightliner conventional tractor with trailer operated by 36 year old Jason Stable of Tennessee. Both men were injured but conditions were not listed on the THP report.
According to the report, the northbound car crossed the median, entered the southbound travel lanes and struck the southbound Freightliner. The commercial vehicle then jackknifed into the median where steel beams spilled from the trailer. Both lanes of I-81 South were blocked for an extended period of time due to oil/fuel and debris on the road. Traffic was routed through the southbound rest area until traffic could be restored.
The Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad, United and Fall Branch Volunteer Fire Departments and Highlands Air Rescue also responded to the scene.
