A Greeneville woman has pled guilty in connection with a wreck last year that killed her ten-year-old son.
On July 8th, 2024, 43-year-old Allison Ruth Flanders pled guilty to one count of Attempted Reckless Vehicular Homicide and Driving Under the Influence. Judge Alex E. Pearson sentenced Flanders to 8 years on the felony Attempted Vehicular Homicide Charge and 11 months and 29 days on the DUI charge.
Flanders must serve 30% before being eligible for early release, according to the plea. Pearson will allow Flanders to serve those sentences concurrently. In addition, her license was revoked for a year and she was fined $560.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol report, Flanders was traveling on Jones Bridge Road around 1 PM May 5, 2023, when she lost control, crossed the roadway, drove into the ditch, and struck a tree. Flanders was trapped in the vehicle and was severely injured. The THP report states the roof needed to be removed so she could be taken out of the car. She was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center via EMS air.
Flanders’s son Jackson Flanders, an East View Elementary School student, was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was found with his head lying on the front seat. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A blood sample taken last year showed no alcohol in Flanders’s system, it did however, show substances including Buprenorphine and Norbuprenorphine, Alprazolam, and Midazolam.
Judge Pearson gave Flanders credit for time already served since the accident. She was taken into custody in September after getting indicted by the Greene County Grand Jury.
