The Mosheim woman charged with Aggravated Robbery made her initial court appearance today.

34 year old Champagne Cansler of 2025 Gilbreath Road appeared in Sessions Court via video from the Detention Center before Judge Ken Bailey.

Greeneville Police told Radio Greeneville News yesterday they had arrested Cansler, but the investigation into the reported incident last Friday at Food City on Snapps Ferry Road continues.

Police have yet to release further details about the incident, saying in their initial release “after a thorough review of surveillance footage, witness statements and other investigative findings, it has been determined the alleged robbery did not occur as it was originally reported to law enforcement.  The victim had told police the robbery occurred outside the store around 11:30 pm last Friday night August 8th.   August 8th by the way, was the date Cansler told the judge she had turned herself in to authorities.  When asked if she had a job, she answered “yes, at Nolachuckey School.”  With raised eyebrows, the judge inquired as to what she did there , and she answered she worked in the cafeteria.  The last time she was there she said, was the first full day of class on August 6th, which was two days before the robbery was reported.  When questioned about whether she had an attorney or needed one appointed Cansler was unsure.  As the judge questioned whether she owned or rented her home, she responded she “kind of rented, helping a man she identified as Joshua Ball.   An attorney in the courtroom apparently more familiar with the matter then notified the judge that is also the name of the victim in the case.

Judge Bailey set the suspects next court date as August 27th.
