A Mosheim man is facing charges after he wrecked while fleeing from police late Saturday night.
Shortly before midnight, a deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department saw a Ford Mustang speeding on Mt. Carmel Road and then travel into the opposite lane. The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the driver, later identified as Jason Cutshall of Mount Carmel Road, failed to pull over. As Cutshall approached the Mt. Carmel and Lonesome Pine Trail intersection, he reportedly traveled into the opposite lane and almost struck a second deputy’s vehicle.
Cutshall then went into Hawkins County, going into the opposite lane numerous times. He also allegedly swerved at a passing vehicle, causing it to go into the emergency lane. The car was spiked at a small bridge by Hawkins County deputies, but Cutshall kept traveling toward Highway 66. As the vehicle approached the intersection, it went straight across the highway and hit a ditch. The Mustang came to rest in the front field at Cherokee High School.
Cutshall and a passenger were asked if they needed medical treatment, but both declined. The passenger was detained, but then released.
Cutshall had an active parole violation warrant and claimed possession of multiple syringes inside the vehicle. He was transported to the Greene County Detention Center on the warrant and additionally charged with evading arrest, reckless endangerment, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the wreck and issued multiple citations.
