More details are available on an accident on the Newport Highway Monday night that killed one person.
64-year-old Debra Johnson of Greeneville was killed in the wreck.
The crash occurred as a Honda Accord driven by 64-year-old Gerald Noblitt of Union Mills, North Carolina was traveling north on Newport Highway near Old Kentucky Road. Johnson Honda CRV was traveling south.
Noblitt’s car was reportedly traveling without headlights and changed lanes into oncoming traffic and struck Johnson’s vehicle head-on. A third vehicle, a Dodge Ram truck driven by Alan Rader of Greeneville was also traveling south on Newport Highway and struck Johnson’s vehicle in the rear as a result of the impact her CRV sustained from Noblitt’s car.
Noblitt was injured in the accident and was flown by medical helicopter to a local hospital. Charges against him are pending, according to the preliminary accident report from the THP.
