Pre-cast concrete and steel beams for Kinser Bridge continue to arrive in Greene County. Another group of beams arrived Thursday. The first beams came in on Tuesday.
Beams destined for the north side of the river in Tusculum are going up 11-E to Chuckey Highway where they turn around and head back toward Greeneville. The extra trip is needed because some of the beams are too long to make the turn off of 11-E onto the Tusculum Bypass. At the Chuckey Highway intersection, the truck and long beams use the crossover and the intersection to reposition the truck in the right direction. That can cause some traffic delays while the maneuvering takes place.
Beams headed for the south side of the river follow the Asheville Highway to South Greene High School. There, the trucks pull into the parking lot and turn and pull back out headed toward Greeneville. They then back out the Asheville Highway around a mile to the intersection of the 107 Cutoff. Once past the intersection, the truck can pull onto the Cutoff and travel all the way to the Erwin Highway. That also slows traffic a bit during the transition from the Asheville Highway to the 107 Cutoff.
A total of 30 beams are being delivered for the reconstruction, which is to be completed by the end of June.
