The U.S. Forest Service Wednesday announced more road and area reopenings in the Cherokee National Forest effective Tuesday.

The Bumpass Cove and Rich Mountain Road in Washington County, and Dark Hollow and Dick’s Creek areas in Unicoi County are open again.

The Bumpass Cove and Dark Hollow areas, which were heavily affected by Hurricane Helene, were closed to prevent additional need for first responders. There will still be damage in these areas, and visitors should watch out for downed trees and hazard crews as they continue their work.

Due to the need for responders still engaged in their recovery missions, the Jackson Farm area north of Clark’s Creek along the 107 in Washington County will remain closed.  The Dennis Cove Campground and Laurel Fork Creek areas of Carter county remain closed due to damage from Helene.

All campgrounds in both the Unaka or Watauga Ranger Districts will be closed for the remainder of the season.
