An economic development project planned for North Mohawk Road near its intersection with Idell Road has received new life after a nearly half decade hiatus.
Originally, the project was known as “Project Jellybean” when it was first discussed by county officials in August 2021. At that time the County Commission voted in support of road improvements in the area of the project. The name of the company was under a nondisclosure agreement through the State of Tennessee, and will remain so until the time the state elects to reveal the industry.
Progress on the project stalled in the months following August 2021, however, Greene County Partnership President Jeff Taylor told the Baileyton Board of Mayor and Aldermen Tuesday night that the project was now moving ahead under a different name, “Project Minty.”
Taylor said that work on the site for the industry is expected to begin in early 2027 with the industry beginning operations sometime in late 2028.
He noted the industry would bring in around 150 jobs with pay near $30 per hour.
In addition, he noted that the Tennessee Department of Transportation would be making some improvements to North Mohawk Road in preparation for the industry to located there.
Taylor told the board that the industry involved manufacturing, and did not handle any hazardous materials or chemicals.
No further information about the project was provided due to the involvement of the State of Tennessee and the existing nondisclosure agreement.
