The Greeneville Municipal Planning Commission approved a preliminary and final approval for a tear down and rebuild of McDonald’s located on Tusculum Boulevard.
The construction project could start in April of 2024 with a timeline of about three months. The site plan includes two drive-thru lanes and a slightly smaller building seating about 75 people. The entrance into McDonald’s will remain the same except the entry on Austin Street will be shifting slightly.
According to the Civil Engineer, some of the parking spots that were near the back of the restaurant will be removed and the sidewalk on Tusculum Boulevard will be replaced due to allegedly not being ADA compliant.
The rebuild includes a new look for McDonald’s and the Civil Engineer says they are moving more toward kiosks. Planning Director Randy Davenport says the dynamic is shifting for the food industry. It seems to be geared more toward drive-through; about 70% of people rather do takeout then dine in.
