The Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved extending terms from two years to four years and the proposed changes to the language in the Town’s Charter Policy.

The revisions were presented to the board by Town Attorney Ron Woods. After some discussion, Alderman Tim Teague made a motion to approve the revisions, seconded by Alderwoman Ginny Kidwell. The Town’s Charter will include the change in the name Board of Mayor and Aldermen to City Council, changing all references from Alderman to Council Member, and changing City Administrator to City Manager. The charter will also now include the language stating the Mayor shall have no vote in matters before the board except in the event of a tie by the members, in which event the Mayor will be entitled to vote as a tiebreaker. Approval has to be given from The State Legislature and then a final approval will be made by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.

The board approved the increase in fee’s to the Water Commission water tap and sewer tap fee’s. Water tap fee’s will increase from $800 to $1,800 for a 3/4″ tap inside corporate limits of Greeneville. For those outside the corporate limits of Greeneville, the fee’s will increase to $2,300. Fee’s will not include costs of asphalt, concrete, and the cost of materials and installation for in road work.

For the sewer tap permit fee’s for residential or small commercial buildings, fee’s will increase from $1,000 to $2,000. For those outside the corporate limits for residential or small commercial buildings, the price will be $2,500 and those fee’s will not include the cost of asphalt, concrete, and cost of materials and installation for in road work.

The board also approved having 12 members in the Parks and Recreation Department instead of 10, as well as approving closing portions of Bohannon Avenue and Main Street for the Greeneville Christmas Parade on December 4th.
