The Greeneville Municipal Planning Commission has granted preliminary approval of a site plan for a Holiday Inn Express at 705 West Andrew Johnson Highway near Banks Street.
New Town Planning Administrator Justin Schooley, taking over the position of the now retired Randy Davenport, updated commission members on plans for the 86-guestroom hotel.
The primary entrance would connect to U.S. Highway 11-E (West Andrew Johnson) with a secondary entrance connecting to Banks Street.
Plans also call for a left-hand deceleration lane so as to effect west bound traffic flow and to align the median crossover with the driveway entrance to the hotel.
There have been discussions with the owners of the new Kings Way location which will be located next door to the Express about accessing a portion of their road frontage for development of an access road in order to align with a crossing already in place, but no such agreement has yet been reached. The access road would be similar to the one on East Andrew Johnson from the Texas Roadhouse to Harlin Street intersection.
The Memphis based developer of the project is hopeful of starting construction in December or January, with completion in a 13-to-14-month window for opening in early 2027. The developer also has plans on the property for a 4,000 square feet development for a possible restaurant to locate.
