A man was arrested for drug possession after running from a Greeneville Police officer early this morning.
The officer saw Lee A. Jennings, who had an outstanding warrant, walk across the East Andrew Johnson Highway in front of Walgreens around 4:45 AM. As the officer approached, Jennings began to run. A foot pursuit ensued. Jennings reportedly had a black object in his hand. The officer instructed Jennings to drop what was in his hand. He dropped a flashlight and his jacket. Jennings began to run again. The officer drew his taser. Jennings complied, got on the ground, and was cuffed.
A small baggie of methamphetamine was found in the area where Jennings was arrested. He admitted it belonged to him. A glass pipe was found in his clothing as well.
Jennings was charged with possession of schedule 2 drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
