A Dandridge man was taken into custody Thursday evening after a failed attempt to apparently have police shoot him.
Greeneville Police responded to the Dollar General on West Bernard around 6:15 pm.
9-1-1 dispatched police after a caller reported there was “a man with a gun to someone’s head” and then reportedly said “send the pigs, they can kill me.”
Understanding the situation as they arrived, police report the man later identified as Jonah French fled the scene on foot toward Chapel Street but then quit running when pursued and was taken into custody without further incident. French told Police he had wanted them to kill him and lied to 9-1-1 about the gun so they would get there quicker.
He was taken to Greeneville Community Hospital for observation. He faces charges of disorderly conduct and resisting stop, arrest.
