A Kentucky man told police that he sent a gift card to a man who had contacted him about a dog for sale.
The victim was at a home on Fodderstack Mountain Loop when he told deputies on Wednesday that he had posted on Facebook about his dog dying. The victim said he received a message a short time later from a man claiming to be a dog breeder who had an AKC registered dog for sale.
The suspect requested that $400 be sent to him in the form of a Visa gift card, which the victim sent. The man then received another message asking for an additional $500 for transport of the dog, which the victim did not send. The victim contacted the alleged breeder and said he could not afford the $500 for transport, and was told that he could send $100 instead if he met the suspect in Kentucky.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department investigated.
