A Greeneville man recently sent a total of $9,000 after being told he had warrants and had to make a payment to avoid being arrested.
According to the report, the victim went to the Greeneville Police Department to report fraud. He stated he received a call on Monday from someone claiming to be “Sergeant Christopher Dobson” from the Georgetown Sheriff’s Department. The victim said Dobson informed him he had three arrest warrants out of their jurisdiction.
The alleged suspect stated if the victim made a payment it would clear his charges in court. He reportedly paid a total of $9,000 to the suspect through a “Star Machine” in Ingles. The report states the true identity of the suspect is unknown at this time.
