An Old Baileyton Road man reported he is out over $4,000 after paying for work that was never finished on his tractor.
The victim told the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday that the suspect took his Kubota tractor on March 7. The victim paid a $3,000 deposit for the agreed repairs. The suspect then said he needed an additional $1,500 for parts, which the victim paid.
During the past five months, the suspect has reportedly continually made excuses for not having the work completed. The suspect also told the victim he had receipts for the parts ordered. However, when the victim contacted the vendors, they said the suspect ordered the parts and later canceled the order after receiving a purchase receipt. The victim told the suspect he was going to pick up the tractor on August 22. When he went to pick it up, he found it in pieces and not running. No repairs had been made and several parts were broken that previously functioned.
The suspect agreed to refund the money, but had failed to do so at the time of the report. He also had stopped responding to the victim’s texts and phone calls.
In total, the victim gave him $4,500 and the tractor is valued at $12,000.
