A man pronounced dead at the scene of a shooting Saturday on Knight Hollow Lane has been identified as John J. McCann of Mosheim.
McCann died from gunshot wounds he received by the suspect Liam MacDonald-Gagnon, 26 of Johnson City, who was charged with Second Degree Murder in connection with the case. The Greene County Sheriff’s Department reported receiving a call regarding a man getting shot in the woods. When arriving on the scene they found the suspect and a witness, who stated McCann was an ex-boyfriend and was allegedly harassing and stalking her since they broke up. Deputies confirmed an order of protection was filed against McCann on behalf of the witness.
According to the report, both Gagnon and the witness stated before the shooting McCann was following them in an aggressive manner in a vehicle on Pates Hill Road. They say he continued following them until they got to Knight Hollow Lane. Gagnon reported he took out his Smith and Wesson after the victim began being verbally aggressive, drove toward him, blocking his path with his vehicle, and made a threat to declare war if he did not leave.
Gagnon said after approaching the vehicle the victim continued arguing. He allegedly saw the gun in Gagnon’s hand and then reached for the center console. At that time the suspect fired about 12 shots, striking him multiple times. EMS arrived on the scene and pronounced him dead. The report states someone checked McCann’s vitals after the shooting and realized he had no pulse. Another person reportedly put his car in park and another found a firearm in the vehicle and moved it to a known location before law enforcement arrived.
