A man wanted in Blount County evaded Greeneville Police Sunday.
Around 8 o’clock Sunday night, police noticed a white Toyota 4-Runner near Baileyton Road and Terry Leonard Drive, reportedly driven by Travis Gunter of Rogersville.
A records check showed that Gunter had an active warrant out of Blount County and officers initiated a traffic stop. When Gunter was asked to exit the SUV officers managed to get one handcuff on before Gunter turned and started fighting and pushing away the officer.
Gunter ignored commands to get on the ground according to the report, and after a scuffle in the middle of Baileyton Road, Gunter was able to get back into his vehicle and speed off. He drove through several private fields and was lost for a time, until officers found his vehicle about 80 feet off an embankment in the 800 block of Robert Harmon Road. Police returned along with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, and Gunter was handcuffed to the steering wheel.
Afterward, officers took Gunter into custody, charged with the warrant out of Blount County, Assault Against a First Responder, Theft of Less than $1000, Resisting Arrest and Evading Arrest.
