A man was charged after an incident Thursday night in which he allegedly assaulted deputies during a traffic stop.
A deputy with the Greene County Sheriff’s Department observed a vehicle with a light law violation at the Sentelle Road/107 Cutoff intersection. The vehicle then was seen passing another vehicle on the double yellow line.
The deputy attempted to stop the driver, identified as Steven Shull of Old Mountain Road, but he failed to stop. The vehicle continued several miles to the suspect’s residence. Shull then came to a stop, exited the vehicle, and failed to comply with orders.
Deputies attempted to arrest Shull, but he resisted. He reportedly grabbed one deputy’s weapon and attempted to remove it from the holster. The suspect also allegedly punched another deputy in the nose. He was tased multiple times so deputies could gain control of him.
Shull was placed into custody and taken to the Greene County Detention Center. He and deputies received medical attention at Greeneville Community Hospital.
Shull was charged with two counts of assault on an officer, evading arrest, failure to maintain lane, violation of the financial responsibility law, reckless endangerment, and driving on a suspended or revoked license 1st offense.
