The construction to tear down and rebuild the McDonald’s located on 521 Tusculum Boulevard just got started this week and someone has already been arrested after theft and trespassing was reported.
The Greeneville Police Department responded to larceny at around 3 AM this morning after they spoke with a witness who said they saw a male taking wire from the construction site. The witness said the male was riding on a bicycle and stopped at a retainer wall at the old car lot before crossing the street. Around 15 to 20 minutes later the man reportedly ran back from the site with his arms full of wires.
The man was described to have long hair; he was wearing a hat, blue jeans, and a flannel. Officers found a man matching his description on the 100 block of Austin Street and he was identified as Johnny Williams of Greeneville. An officer said he had his bicycle with a makeshift trailer out of an old shopping cart and a pile of wires was inside. Officers returned the wires to the site and found wire cutters in the old car lot.
Williams was charged with theft under $1,000 and criminal trespass due to the site having a construction fence around the building.
