An Afton man was arrested on Sunday night for DUI in the parking lot of Greeneville Community Hospital.
A hospital security officer found James Anderson of Middle Creek Road passed out behind the wheel of an SUV around 11:00 PM, with the vehicle running. The officer asked Anderson for his keys to the vehicle and Anderson reportedly hit the gas while the SUV was in park. Anderson then gave the officer the keys to wait for the Greeneville Police Department to arrive.
Anderson performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI.
He told police that he had been cutting firewood until dark at a property on Holly Creek Road. Anderson said he drank some beer and then went to pick up food about 10:00 PM. He said he then became tired and pulled over. Anderson said he had drank about four beers. An open container of beer that was almost empty was found in the center console.
Anderson was additionally charged with violation of the open container law.
