A Greeneville man was arrested after leaving the scene of an accident Monday morning.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 3000 block of Asheville Highway around 11:45 AM on the report of a possibly intoxicated driver who hit a mailbox and left the scene. The suspect, Hunter B. Gregg of Kelley Gap Road, was located a short time later traveling in the wrong lane. A traffic stop was initiated and Gregg reportedly told the deputy he was trying to cut a piece of cake while driving.
Gregg appeared disoriented and was unable to keep his eyes open. He performed poorly on field sobriety tests. According to the report, he admitted hitting the mailbox and leaving the scene.
Gregg was arrested for DUI 1st offense and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage.
