Kristin Girton Stepping Off Greene County Planning Commission, Moratorium Study Due This Fall

The Greene County Regional Planning Commission met yesterday afternoon and it was announced that former City Council member and Planning Commissioner Kristin Girton is stepping off the planning commission.

Greene County Planning Coordinator Amy Tweed told commissioners Girton is stepping off and since a seat was vacant, City Mayor Cal Doty is appointing a new member, Becky Rideout. Tweed mentioned Girton recently made the decision and will be taking the time to spend it with her family. The new member appointed does have to go before the commission for approval, according to Greene County Attorney Roger Woolsey.

Solar farms were briefly brought up in the meeting as the study for the moratorium is due this fall in September. The moratorium, which is for Solar Energy Systems, Bitcoin Mining, and Wind Farms, was done to establish proper restrictions, requirements, and regulations in order to protect the public health, safety, and general welfare. More discussions will be had on the matter next month.

Commissioners approved all items on their agenda including the rezoning of a property adjacent to Gaby Circle. The property was approved for rezoning to (B-1) Neighborhood Business District, which allows the use of a business. The property owner intends to add a building to the lot where he has a body shop next door. The shop has been operated since the 1980’s and will help him continue to serve the rural community.
