Longtime local teacher and coach Bobby Broyles passed away Sunday at the age of 94.
Broyles began his teaching and coaching career in 1955 at Chuckey High School. In 1959, Howard McNeese, Greene County Superintendent at that time, chose Broyles to combine the two rival schools Chuckey High School and Doak High School for a smooth transition into the newly built Chuckey-Doak High School. There, Broyles taught health and physical education, as well as coaching both the girls and boys basketball teams.
Broyles later taught and coached at South Greene High School and North Greene High School.
He was inducted into the Knights of Legend in 2009 and TSSAA Hall of Fame in 2026.
Visitation will be Saturday from 1-3 and 5-8 pm at Chuckey-Doak Middle School. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 pm at Chuckey Methodist Church. Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of the arrangements.
