Several local volunteer fire departments will be the recipient of thousands in state grant funding in 2026. Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison told the Greene County Budget and Finance Committee on Wednesday morning that 10 of the county’s 14 volunteer department had been awarded state Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training grant funds.
The departments awarded grant funding include Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Caney Branch Volunteer Fire Department, Debusk Volunteer Fire Department, Midway Volunteer Fire Department, Mosheim Volunteer Fire Department, Town of Mosheim Fire Department, Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department, South Greene Volunteer Fire Department, Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department, and United Volunteer Fire Department.
Morrison commended the chiefs of the departments for taking advantage of the grant dollars made available by the state. He noted that the grant funds will be used by departments to purchase needed equipment, including turnout gear and other supplies.
Morrison said it was not known Wednesday how much each department would receive, but in past years local departments had secured about one-third of the funding available for the region.
