Washburn – The road to the State Tournament on Tuesday night mirrored the tumultuous season that South Greene’s volleyball team has endured—fraught with challenges, yet ultimately victorious. In a season marked by adversity, including a devastating fire in their gym, injuries, and the aftermath of Hurricane Helene’s flooding, the Lady Rebels still found a way to reclaim their place atop Region 1-A with a 3-0 sweep over West Greene (25-9, 25-17, 25-23).
Tuesday’s win marks the 17th time in the past 18 years that South Greene has captured the region championship. Despite only playing two home games all season, they continue to show resilience. Both South Greene and West Greene advance to Thursday’s state sectionals, with South Greene set to face the Chattanooga School of Liberal Arts for a shot at the state tournament. South Greene, still unable to use their home gym, has yet to determine a venue for their game.
West Greene, making its first appearance in the state sectionals since 2007, will travel to face Chattanooga School of Arts and Science. They’ll be looking to reach the state tournament for the first time since 2000.
Throughout the regional tournament, several players stood out. South Greene’s Tarlton earned MVP honors, while teammates Jennings, Compton, Reaves, and Faith Baughard joined her on the All-Region team. For West Greene, Peters, Hill, and Morgan Brown also earned All-Region accolades.
Earlier in the tournament, South Greene swept Eagleton in the semifinals with an emphatic 3-0 victory (25-7, 25-9, 25-8). West Greene, meanwhile, took down host Washburn in a 3-1 battle (25-13, 25-27, 25-13, 25-20) to punch their ticket to the sectional finals.
South Greene remains on course for their 16th consecutive state tournament appearance, providing the Lady Rebels are able to win on Thursday in the Sectionals.

Greeneville’s Season Ends in Five-Set Heartbreaker Against Gibbs
CHURCH HILL – A slow start left Greeneville trailing early, but a fierce comeback forced a fifth set in the Region 1-AA volleyball semifinals before Gibbs emerged victorious in a 3-2 thriller (25-22, 25-12, 24-26, 20-25, 15-12) on Tuesday night at Volunteer High School.
The Lady Devils’ fight mirrored the resilience they’ve shown all season. Despite enduring a roller coaster year, Greeneville battled through doubt and adversity to claim their fifth consecutive District 1-AA title. Facing elimination on Tuesday, they showed grit and heart, forcing a dramatic comeback before falling just short in the final frame. Head Coach Sara Aiken praised her team’s effort: “What they learned about themselves and as a team they’ll keep for way longer than the disappointment.”
Gibbs appeared poised for a sweep, dominating the first two sets and coming within striking distance of a third-set victory. However, Greeneville staged a remarkable rally. Down 23-15, the Lady Devils won 11 of the next 12 points, with key contributions from Destani Bailey, whose three kills and a block fueled the run. Emma Shelton kept the pressure on from the service line, while Kinley McCaslin’s spike tied the score at 23-23. Bailey and McCaslin delivered crucial plays to secure a 26-24 win, staving off elimination.
In the fourth set, Greeneville built an early 4-0 lead with kills from Leah Ford and McCaslin, and despite strong resistance from Gibbs’ Ella Brannan—who finished with a game-high 24 kills—the Lady Devils held firm. Kills by McCaslin, Bailey, and Trudi Aiken pushed them to a 25-20 win, forcing a decisive fifth set.
Gibbs jumped ahead 7-4 in the final set, and while Greeneville rallied to tie the score at 11-11, it wasn’t enough. Two late aces from Addison Winton and a game-ending spike from Jadyn Parker sealed Greeneville’s fate, with Gibbs winning 15-12 to advance.
Gibbs later claimed the Regional Championship defeating Elizabethton.

Chuckey-Doak 2, Oneida 1
Chuckey-Doak Edges Oneida to Advance to Region 1-A Championship
The Chuckey-Doak Lady Black Knights put relentless pressure on goal Tuesday night in the Region 1-A semifinals, but two well-placed shots were all they needed to secure a 2-1 victory over the Oneida Lady Indians.
“We controlled the ball and had a lot of shots,” said Chuckey-Doak coach Anna Ricker. “We were unlucky not to score more. Maybe we were playing a little tight.”
The chilly, rainy conditions in Lower Afton—with temperatures in the 40s—may have contributed to that tension. However, Chuckey-Doak’s offense was sharp, applying heavy pressure from the outset. Despite missing veteran defender Emma Hoxie due to a red card, the Lady Black Knights adjusted their formation and controlled possession for most of the game.
Chuckey-Doak fired 17 shots on goal in the first half compared to Oneida’s three, but Oneida’s junior goalkeeper Kamryn Stiltner put on a stellar performance, making numerous key saves to keep the game close. It wasn’t until the 20th minute that Layla Fox finally found the back of the net, slipping a shot past Stiltner into the bottom corner to give Chuckey-Doak a 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the 57th minute, Tayvn Southerland launched a direct kick from near midfield, which was blocked, but Fox was there to capitalize with a rebound goal, extending Chuckey-Doak’s lead to 2-0.
Oneida responded in the 66th minute, when a direct kick from just beyond the box sailed over Chuckey-Doak keeper Cora Merrill, trimming the lead to 2-1. The Lady Indians tried to mount an offensive surge in the final 14 minutes, but Chuckey-Doak’s defense held firm, and Oneida couldn’t generate any more clear shots before the final whistle.
With the win, Chuckey-Doak advances to the Region 1-A championship and will travel to Kingston on Thursday, after Kingston’s 6-1 win over University High in the other semifinal.

Greeneville 8, David Crockett 0
Greeneville Dominates David Crockett 8-0 to Reach Region 1-AA Final
Greeneville, Tn – The Greeneville Lady Devils cruised to an 8-0 victory over David Crockett (11-6) on Tuesday night, securing their spot in the Region 1-AA championship game and earning a berth in Saturday’s state sectionals. The season comes to an end for the Crockett Lady Pioneers.
Longtime Lady Devil Coach Jerry Graham was pleased with the play to advance. “We played much better tonight than we have showed in practice the last couple of times out. We moved the ball at times effortlessly against a team that pressured the ball well. Elaina (Philbeck) gave us a spark early that helped us build momentum and our veteran players Abby (Adkins) and Gabi (Stayton), who have played a lot of soccer for us, showed a tremendous amount of poise against their pressure. Capped by a great save in goal by Lily (Evatt) on a PK (penalty kick), preserved our momentum.”
Greeneville (10-8) wasted no time in establishing control, with Elaina Philbeck opening the scoring in the fifth minute with a powerful strike from 18 yards out. Philbeck added another goal soon after, curling a 15-yard shot into the upper corner for a 2-0 lead. Just one minute later, Abby Adkins extended the lead, blasting in a free kick from 25 yards out.
Before halftime, Vivian Kammerdiener set up Gabi Stayton for a 20-yard finish, making it 4-0. Kammerdiener then scored off a rebound from an Adkins shot to give the Lady Devils a commanding 5-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Adkins took over, netting three goals in under 20 minutes. She first connected on a corner from Stayton in the 45th minute, then finished off a brilliant combination play with Matea Gray and Emma Sauceman in the 57th minute. Adkins completed her hat trick just two minutes later, drilling in a pass from Gray to cap off the scoring at 8-0. Adkins has scored eight goals in the last two matches.
Adkins finished with four goals on the night, while Philbeck added two. Greeneville keeper Lily Evatt made five saves, including a crucial stop on a penalty kick by Kortney Shaffer just after halftime.
Greeneville outshot David Crockett 29-5, placing 22 of those shots on frame.
With the win, Greeneville will host Tennessee High, who defeated Grainger 9-0, in the region championship on Thursday at Fox Field beginning at 6pm.
