Sipe says Phillips & Jordan, contracted by TEMA to remove debris from the river, should be finished around the middle of this month.She says contractors are 75% to 90% complete with debris removal and hopefully will be finished within the next couple of weeks. Then their work will switch to chipping and mulching at the debris deposit sites.
She reports debris removal from the Nolichucky river is at 1million cubic yards/1.4 tons in Greene County. The latest updates indicate 3.4 million cubic yards have been removed from the the river regionally.
Other numbers reported to the group yesterday included the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) having provided more than $4 million in individual assistance in Greene County. Housing assistance has totaled more than $2 million, rental assistance has totaled almost $120,000, and six applications for temporary direct housing assistance were approved. FEMA also has provided more than $2 million in Greene County for repair and replacement of flood damaged property according to their Direct Housing group.
