JONESBOROUGH – Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies, with assistance from Jonesborough Police and Tennessee Highway Patrol officers, apprehended an escapee from the Washington County Detention Center (WCDC) Workhouse.
According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, Justin Edward Painter (39 of Limestone) walked off from the WCDC workhouse car wash at 7:40 p.m. Thursday evening. Officers quickly began a foot pursuit through Maple Lawn Cemetery, which is next to the Detention Center.
Shortly thereafter, Painter stole a vehicle as Jonesborough Police Department and Tennessee Highway Patrol officers joined WCSO Deputies in pursuing Painter on several county back roads. WCSO Deputies utilized a Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) maneuver and Painter crashed on Cherokee Road near Charlie Hicks Road at approximately 8:28 p.m. He was immediately taken into custody.
Multiple felony charges from multiple agencies are pending and the investigation is ongoing. Painter sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported to the Johnson City Medical Center.
