The Greeneville/Greene County Public Library is thrilled to announce an array of engaging events and programs set to launch this September, catering to all age groups and interests within the community. With a commitment to providing enriching experiences, the library introduces a new Library Book Club, the Greene County Writer’s Society, and a Zine Workshop for teens, as well as the much-anticipated returns of Block Party, Storytime, Crafternoon, and knitting classes.

Library Book Club: Exploring “Killers of the Flower Moon”
The Library Book Club invites all interested readers to join the discussion on David Grann’s haunting true crime narrative, “Killers of the Flower Moon,” an adaptation of which is soon to be released as a motion picture directed by Martin Scorsese. Multiple copies of the book are on display and available for check out, and the club’s inaugural meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 11th at 5:30 pm. This inclusive gathering is open to all, with no registration required. Immerse yourself in this captivating story and share your insights with fellow book lovers.

Greene County Writer’s Society: Unleash Your Creativity
Calling all aspiring writers! The Greene County Writer’s Society invites adult writers of all genres and experience levels to come together for an inspiring and collaborative environment. Engage in open discussions, partake in writing-related games, enjoy readings, and provide and receive valuable feedback. The society’s debut meeting is on September 5th at 4:30 pm, and future gatherings will occur monthly to continue to foster creativity and camaraderie.

Block Party: Building Adventures with LEGO
Young builders are in for a treat with the revival of the popular Block Party. Starting September 7th, kids aged 7-11 can participate in an exciting lego-building challenge based on a monthly theme. A limited number of these spots are available, and registration will open on Monday August 28th.

We’re also pleased to announce the library will begin to offer monthly open build times, with the first session taking place on Saturday, September 16th, starting at 10 am. Open build times will not require registration and will take place on one Saturday each month.

Storytime for Kids: Where Imagination Takes Flight
Families are invited to bring their little ones to the Tuesday morning Storytime sessions, returning September 5th and recurring every Tuesday at 10:30 am. Each session includes captivating story readings and delightful crafts and activities tailored for preschool and early school-age children. No registration is necessary-just bring your enthusiasm for storytelling and creativity.

Zine Workshop for Teens: Discover the Art of Self-Expression
Young minds will be empowered to create at the Zine Workshop, a three-week series held on September 13th, 20th, and 27th. Students aged 13-18 can explore the world of self-expression through zine-making, from conception and creation to design and distribution. The culmination of the workshop will result in participants crafting their own zines, which may be featured in a special non-circulating zine collection displayed within the library. Limited to the first 12 registrants, ages 13-18. Secure your spot now through registration on the library’s website.

Crafternoon: A Social Crafting Event for Adults
Crafternoon is our crafting program for adults, which returns on September 21st at 4:00pm and recurs on the third Thursday of each month. Get together with other crafters and enjoy putting together creative and beautiful crafts. All materials are provided, with a minimum $5 donation requested to cover the cost of supplies. There are a limited number of spaces available, and registration will open approximately two weeks before each session (with registration for the first session opening on September 7th).

Knitting Classes: Unwind with Creativity
For those with an interest in crafting, the library offers knitting classes led by our dedicated volunteer instructor, Peggy Winfree. The first set of classes begin September 8th, for beginners to learn the art of knitting and create their own beautiful pieces. For more details and registration information, please contact the library at 423-638-5034.

The Greeneville/Greene County Public Library is excited to welcome all community members to these inspiring events and programs, fostering a sense of learning, creativity, and togetherness. For more information and updates, visit the library’s website at ggcpl.org.
