Prior to their meeting later in the afternoon, members of the Greeneville City Council went on location to preview leaning rails on Depot Street as a prototype.

During the meeting, the design plan was approved with a beige powder-coated top (where white is shown on pictures posted on this story at wgrv.com.  The quantity and placement have not yet been determined, although discussion during the meeting was for 14 with the possibility of 2 extras.  The cost is $2,450 per rail, which will be purchased with bond money that remains from the Depot Street project.

The purpose of these railings is twofold in that is will:
1) prevent people from walking on the sloped furnishing zone sections that are 7% or more (these are not the actual walking areas), and
2) to allow people to use them during festivals and events for food and/or drinks

Several benches have already been placed on Depot sidewalks as part of the revitalization project.
