A fire at the Greeneville/Greene County Landfill rekindled twice on Sunday
Greeneville Fire Department was called back to the landfill around 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon and again last night after 9:00 PM to the reports of flames at the site.
Fire fighters from six departments were called out Saturday morning to a fire at the demolition landfill area where a fire had started in the debris pile. Greeneville Fire Department, and the Tusculum, Limestone, Mosheim, Debusk, and Newmansville Volunteer Fire Departments responded around 7:30 AM and battled the fire until late afternoon.
Public Works was requested to bring in heavy equipment operators to separate the debris of the landfill, while firefighters poured up to 600 gallons of water per minute on the fire.
