Greeneville businessman and civic leader James “Jim” Emory died on Monday. Emory passed away at the Johnson City Medical Center. He was 91.

Emory had served many years on the Greeneville Light & Power Board of Directors, was a former Town of Greeneville Alderman. He was first appointed as an alderman in December 1990 to fill the unexpired term of Clyde Moore and served until July 1997.

Emory was also the proprietor of the former Burger Chef restaurant, which was a popular restaurant on Tusculum Boulevard in what is now Aunt Bea’s. Emory’s support in sponsorship of the Burger Chef Ladies Classic from its beginnings in 1989 were key in its success.

The visitation for Jim Emory will be held Monday, July 15 from 4-7 PM at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Tuesday, July 16 at 10 AM.

A once-in-a-generation project aims to partner with 230 beef cattle farms across nine states for a five-year evaluation of best practices in pasture management. The effort will obtain data from on-farm performance of these practices. Results will pave the way for the region’s producers to compete in emerging markets including those for carbon credits and other conservation benefits and premiums on cattle. Photo Credit: UTIA.
