Interstate 40 at the Tennessee-North Carolina state line was reopened to one lane of travel in each direction this afternoon.
The opening comes nine days after flooding and a rockslide at mile marker 450 in Cocke County shut the highway in both directions. Damage was not as extensive as that from Hurricane Helene in September, and initial estimates were two weeks to have the road back open to traffic.
Work is still continuing in the area as part of the cleanup from Helene, so motorists on I-40 should continue to exercise caution.
