A hiker who fell while hiking around Marguerite Falls was airlifted for medical treatment Monday evening.
Volunteers with the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad and Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department were called to the trail around 8:15 PM in response to a report of a female who was injured. She had been hiking with her husband and had fallen on a rock, hitting her chest. The hiker was not climbing the falls and had not climbed to the top, where several other hikers have previously been injured in falls.
Greene County Deputy Luke Fields was one of the first to respond to the scene and began making his way up the trail until he met the woman and her husband, who had started their way down. Fields helped the woman down the trail until they met three volunteers from the Rescue Squad, who had driven up an old roadbed to where the trail splits. The hiker and her rescuers were brought down to an awaiting EMS unit.
Volunteers with the Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Department also responded with assistance and established a landing zone for Highlands Air Rescue. Just over an hour later, around 9:15 PM, the woman was being transferred to a medical helicopter. She was complaining of chest pain where she had fallen on the rocks.
