Several area volunteer fire departments assisted at the scene of a structure fire at 1304 Quillen Shell Road around 7:30 Thursday evening.
Personnel from the Tusculum, Newmansville, Limestone, Mosheim, Town of Mosheim and Debusk Volunteer Fire Departments responded while the Caney Branch and Camp Creek Volunteer Fire Departments covered for Tusculum while they were on the scene.
According to a Greene County Sheriff’s Department report, homeowner Anthony Doyle reported hearing a loud boom and a fire then broke out on the back porch of the residence. Fire Investigator Brian Shelton determined the fire was started by a lightning strike or was electrical in nature.
Tusculum Chief Marty Shelton reported when units arrived they found a wind-driven blaze with flames venting horizontally from the back of the home.

The Newmansville Volunteer Fire Department also responded to a garage fire at 6815 Kingsport Highway in Afton Thursday around Noon.
Laura Gray told the Greene County Sheriff’s Department she believes the fire may have started after she set wood on fire in a metal barrel and left if for about ten minutes. She estimated the cost for repairs will be $3,000.
