According to the National Weather Service, there is a High Wind Warning in effect for Northwest Greene County from 7 AM this morning to 7 PM this evening with southeast winds 35 to 45 mph and gusts up to 65 mph expected. Camp Creek has already experienced 70 mph winds as of 5:45 AM.
There is also a Wind Advisory beginning at 7 PM this evening to 7 AM on Saturday morning with southwest winds 25 to 35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph expected. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
A strong system will affect Greene County today as a mountain wave event is expected across the east TN mountains and foothills. Showers and possibly a thunderstorm can be expected.
People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.
Early next week, expect very cold temperatures to move into the region with increasing potential of snowfall Monday to Tuesday. As of right now, there is a 40% chance of snow. Tuesday to Wednesday, high temperatures are likely to stay below freezing with lows approaching single-digits, especially if snow is on the ground.
