The National Weather Service out of Morristown has issued a special weather alert for today. Unseasonably warm temperatures in the 80s, low afternoon relative humidity in the 20s, and breezy winds gusting between 15 to 25 mph, will lead to increased fire weather concerns this afternoon.
Monday through Saturday, continued dry, warm, and breezy conditions will maintain heightened fire weather danger and worsening drought into the new work week. With Monday being the most likely day of greatest concern.
Per the Tennessee Wildland Fire webpage, avoid outdoor burning, don’t part vehicles on dry grass, keep grills and fire pits away from structures, and make sure cigarettes are fully extinguished. Any small spark can lead to a rapidly spreading wildfire.
If you see smoke or flames, call 9-1-1 immediately. Do not assume someone else has already reported it.
