More heat is in the forecast for today, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.
The heat index will approach 100 degrees by this afternoon, with the highest readings along the I-75 corridor between Knoxville and Chattanooga in the low 100s. Heat index readings of 103 or higher can be a potential health risk.
There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms again this afternoon. Temperatures will moderate into the upper 80s by Wednesday before returning to the low 90s for the weekend.
Monday’s high at the Greeneville Municipal Airport reached 91 degrees at 5:15.
