In the first ever meeting in the twenty plus year history of the Greene County Health & Safety Appeals Committee, the group upheld a ruling for cleanup of property in the thirteen hundred block of Jim Fox Road.
Property owner Christopher Denkler had appealed a ruling from the Health and Safety Committee within ten days which trigger the need for the appeals hearing.
The complaint indicates 12 to 15 cars and trucks are on the property, around 12 which are not tagged or in running condition. Parts, multiple stacks of tires and other trash and debris is also located on the property, according to the complaint.
In March, the property owner was notified in writing to remedy the condition at his cost or the county would do so at an estimated cost of $5,000. Board members explained to him Wednesday that it would be less costly for him to take care of the matter himself, rather than have the county do it, which it turn would lead to a lien being placed on his property.
Denkler had acknowledged earlier he was in violation but said he was not financially able to comply. But when the meeting turned somewhat argumentative, especially with committee member Bill Dabbs, he left the meeting abruptly, voicing concerns with what he deemed as ‘his cars and property being taken’ in such as manner.
The Appeals Committee voted in support of building officials determining the violation was a founded issue, supported action taken earlier by Building Official Tim Tweed and the Health and Safety Board.
