Numerous wrecks in both the city and the county Monday were the result of freezing temperatures on top of the weekend snow and ice, and while some roadways are better now than twenty four hours ago, hazardous driving conditions still exist on this Tuesday with remaining ice in lesser treated or sun warmer areas, with patchy black ice also possible early today.
While local numbers are not yet available, the Tennessee Highway Patrol reported Monday evening statewide since the storm began on Saturday afternoon , their troopers had responded to 2 fatalities, 61 crashes involving injuries, 241 crashes involving property damage, 906 motorist assists, 94 abandoned vehicles, 269 roadway obstructions, many caused by downed trees, 2 vehicle fires and 2131 total phone calls to “THP” requesting assistance.
