GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — A pair of Tusculum University indoor track and field athletes have received South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Athlete of the Week awards for their performances Saturday at the Commonwealth College Opener.

Junior sprinter Jahzara Hart is the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while senior jumper Joshua Stephens was named the Men’s Field Athlete of the Week after each had a pair of national-qualifying marks and set school records at Saturday’s meet.

Hart swept the 60 meters and 200 meters this weekend, earning the top time in Division II this season in the 60 meters with a career-best time of 7.37 seconds, which beat the old school record of 7.62 seconds. The Raleigh, North Carolina native posted the sixth-best time in Division II at 24.42 seconds in the 200, breaking the program record by 3/4 of a second.

Stephens set a program record and won the long jump with a mark of 7.23 meters (23 feet, 8 3/4 inches), the 14th-best mark in Division II this year. Stephens set the record by almost one foot and surpassed his previous career best by nearly two feet. The Sanford, Florida native took second in the triple jump and had the 10th-best jump in Division II this season at 14.83 meters (48 feet, 8 inches), which is the fourth-best mark in program history.

The Pioneers will return from winter break to participate in the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday-Saturday, January 17-18 in Nashville.
