A Greeneville man reported a forged check to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday.
The victim said he had mailed a check for one of his bills on December 11. He later received a late bill stating he had not made his payment.
When the victim received his bank statement this week, it showed $3,800 missing from his account. He went to his bank and discovered the check had been altered and written out to a name he did not recognize.
The victim said he was unsure if the check had been taken from his mailbox.
