A Greeneville man was injured, and later charged after his car crashed into Jones Memorial AME Zion Church overnight.
Greeneville Police, Fire and EMS responded to the 1:42 am call to find a 2011 Dodge Challenger driven by Shyheem M. Carnes of 121 Railroad Street had left Clem Street and struck the church building. After initially withholding comment, Carnes later told investigating officers he was “being dumb and lost control” of the vehicle.

Carnes, who the Police report indicates was bleeding from his nose and ears as a result of the crash, was taken by EMS to Greeneville Community Hospital.
A blood alcohol test after an open bottle of 1800 tequila was found inside the wrecked car led to charges of Driving Under the Influence and Due Care against Carnes.
Apparently no one was inside the church building at the time of the wreck.
