A Greeneville man died at the scene of a two-vehicle wreck Thursday at 5:48 am on West Andrew Johnson Highway at the Old Knoxville Highway (Mt. Pleasant Road) intersection.

A Greeneville Police report issued this morning confirmed the death of 52-year-old Paul D. Oaks of Pates Lane, Greeneville.

Paul D. Oaks

According to the report, the 1999 Chevrolet pickup driven by Oaks failed to yield and pulled from Mt. Pleasant Road into the path of a 2003 Dodge Durango operated by Michael A. McFarland.  The Oaks vehicle, which was struck on the driver’s side, then rolled over.

Oaks, police say, was unresponsive and not breathing when emergency personnel arrived.  He was extricated from the vehicle by the Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McFarland, who also had to be extricated from his vehicle, was checked by EMS for suspected minor injuries, then driven by private vehicle to Greeneville Community Hospital.

The Greeneville Fire Department also responded.
